Plantation, FL – Studies show that periodontal disease can lead to heart disease and stroke. Through their
commitment to Oral Health and overall wellness, Solstice Benefits, a Broward-based organization, is honored to once
again support the American Heart Association’s Annual Broward Heart Walk. With heart disease and stroke as America’s
No. 1 and No. 3 killers, the Heart Walk not only raises funds for local research, but also promotes heart-healthy
living and physical activity.
The event creates an environment that is positive and exciting for guests of all ages. The event, to be held
Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Nova Southeastern University, is expected to be even larger than years prior, with
thousands of community families and businesses supporting its worthy cause. Participants will have the opportunity
to raise funds for the American Heart Association, as they take a 5K walk around the campus in support of cardiovascular
research.
As the Heart Walk’s 2011 Top Small Business Fundraiser award recipient, the Solstice Benefits team is gearing up for
another triumphant turnout at the Heart Walk. Last year, the Solstice organization raised an astounding $18,600 for the
event. At the recent kick-off for the 2012 Heart Walk, Solstice Benefits employees agreed that they would double the
company goal to $30,000. The team is forecasting a promising outcome, and has already begun arranging fundraisers and
contacting local businesses and organizations for support and involvement.
“Thirty thousand dollars is a big number, but I believe in this cause and in our team,” said Ferrera to clients who
inquired on the employees’ progress for the Heart Walk. “Our employees are passionate about this event and committed to
its success. They have been planning events and working hard to raise as much money as possible. Their motivation keeps
me confident and makes me proud to be part of this passionate team.”
In addition to participating in the 5k walk, Solstice revealed its 2012 theme “We Heart your Smile” in support of the
increasing connection between periodontal disease and heart disease. To support this theme, the Solstice tent will feature
a photo booth with fun props at this year’s walk. The photo booth made its debut at the Solstice tent last year and was a
hit with the families and participants of the walk as they received a keepsake photo strip. Solstice Benefits will also
receive the American Heart Association’s Fit-Friendly Gold Level award at this year’s Heart Walk for their commitment to
providing healthy lifestyle options to their employees.
Whether you or someone you know has heart disease, the Heart Walk is a great opportunity to participate in a healthy activity
for an important cause. Join them and thousands of others at the American Heart Association Heart Walk. Help make a difference.
