Solstice Recognizes Children’s Dental Health Month with Blog Series

February 10, 2014 - Plantation, FL

ADA Children's Dental Health Month 2014 The month of February is Children’s Dental Health Month. This annual campaign by the American Dental Association works to raise awareness about the importance of oral health in children. Solstice, a leading dental insurance provider, is supporting the cause with a series of blog posts throughout the month providing tips and tricks for kids’ good oral hygiene. The blog series will include topics such as:

• Healthy Diet = Healthy Teeth
• What’s the Best Toothpaste for Kids?
• Surviving your Child’s First Dental Visit
• Thumb Sucking, Pacifiers, Sippy Cups: Negative Effect on Teeth?
• Sealing Teeth to Prevent Decay
• Teens: Are Tongue Piercings Really Cool?

“Children’s Dental Health Month is a good time to bring to light some sobering statistics about oral health in American children,” said Solstice COO Carlos Ferrera. “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say 1 out of every 5 children in America has untreated tooth decay. And, the most chronic childhood disease isn’t asthma, diabetes, obesity or allergies—but tooth decay. It’s important that kids learn good oral hygiene habits early on.”

Brushing and flossing regularly and going for regular cleanings at the dentist will help keep tooth decay and gum disease at bay through childhood. The benefits of good oral health will then carry on into adulthood. Studies show oral health is linked to overall health. Having healthy teeth as a child and continuing it as an adult can help lower your risk of life threatening conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

Solstice’s blogs will include downloads that the whole family can enjoy, while also educating and raising awareness about this important health issue. Check the Solstice blog throughout February for our Children’s Dental Health Month blogs.
