Solstice Recognizes National Walking Day for the Fifth Consecutive Year

April 01, 2015 - Plantation, FL

As supporters of the American Heart Association (AHA) for half a decade, Solstice Benefits, Inc. has not only committed fundraising for the Broward Heart Walk, but also participated in various AHA activities throughout the year. From attending Heart Walk meetings and award ceremonies, to having an office full of employees in red for AHA’s “Wear Red Day,” to promoting a 30 minute walk around the building for “National Walking Day,” it is clear that Solstice finds the work of AHA a cause worth supporting.

Today, the employees of Solstice, along with thousands of other Americans across the country, will take a small portion of their day to get outside of the office and walk. Solstice walks with the AHA to promote a healthy, active lifestyle, minimizing the risks of strokes and heart disease.
Solstice employees were allowed to come to work dressed comfortably (jeans and sneakers) as they prepared for their walk. Flyers announcing the walk were drawn up weeks prior to National Walking Day to excite employees and encourage participation.

The Solstice team gathered in the office lobby at 3 p.m. to start the walk around the building’s perimeter. The sunny and 75 degree South Florida weather made it a great experience for employees as they walked together, sharing in conversation and laughter while supporting a good cause and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

“This is one small, fun way for us to uphold our commitment to health and community at Solstice,” said chief operating officer, Carlos Ferrera, as he joined the employees in their half-hour stroll. “As individuals, we are doing something good for our bodies by walking. As a group, we are sending a message to everyone that heart disease is a leading killer in the U.S., and we are committed to fighting it.”
