Staying in Good Shape: Solstice Recognized as an American Heart Association Fit-Friendly Worksite

January 20, 2016

Solstice Benefits, Inc., for the fifth year in a row, has been recognized as a Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association. Achieving Gold-Level status, the company provides employees with physical activity support, makes healthy eating options available, and continues to promote a culture of wellness on-site. Recent moves Solstice has taken include the implementation of a “Biggest Loser” contest and a vending machine with smarter snacks.

“At Solstice, we are committed to promoting the overall health of both the public we’re grateful to serve and the individuals we’re lucky to call our employees,” said Solstice chief operating officer Carlos Ferrera. “It’s an honor to be named a Gold-Level Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association as we strive to provide the best possible workplace environment. Wellness starts from within, and our actions will positively affect the company in more ways than one."

Health care expenses are a costly issue. American employers are losing an estimated $225.8 billion a year because of them. When people lack regular physical activity, the risks of medical problems like obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes are raised. Illnesses cause employees to miss time at work, which impacts productivity. By helping companies make their employees’ health and well-being a priority, the Fit-Friendly Worksites program encourages positive change in the American workforce.
