Continuing to Promote Wellness: Solstice Hosts “National Walking Day” Event

April 04, 2012 - Plantation, FL

Solstice stepped out and stepped up to support Heart Health by participating in the American Heart Association’s “National Walking Day.” The company has long been a promoter of healthy habits for their employees; having partaken in events such as the Broward Heart Walk, annual “Biggest Loser” contests, and invited guest speakers from the American Heart Association to conduct healthy lifestyle seminars for employees.

Solstice employees arrived to work on Wednesday morning excited to walk, wearing their company Heart Walk t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers. The energized group gathered in the company conference room where they took a few team photos and discussed the  route they would take to complete the day’s event. “I believe that healthy choices should be available for all people in a workplace,” said Solstice COO, Carlos Ferrera. “What this event signifies is important to me for personal reasons, but more importantly, days like today help create awareness of the small changes we can make in our lives to become healthier, stronger people.” Shortly after, the Solstice team was on their way, completing a twenty-minute walk around the side roads surrounding the office building. Walkers enjoyed a heart-healthy snack of fruit and yogurt while learning about how walking 30 minutes a day can help reduce heart disease.

National Walking Day is a nationwide event in which Americans can come together within their workplace, school, and local community in effort to adopt a healthy lifestyle. This day is designated not only for wellness purposes, but as a come together to help fight heart disease, the nation’s No. 1 killer. The American Heart Association is a proud sponsor of this event among many others, most importantly, the nationwide Heart Walks. Participation in National Walking Day serves as a testament of commitment to living a healthier life.
