Solstice Chief Operating Officer Carlos Ferrera Receives AHA Heart Award

March 11, 2015 - Plantation, FL

The American Heart Association (AHA) has awarded Solstice’s Chief Operating Officer, Carlos Ferrera, with this year’s Heart Award. The organization has recognized his dedication to the Heart Walk through his commitment as a three-year Executive Leadership Committee member, corporate sponsor, corporate walk team and Platinum Fit Friendly Company. Ferrera has single handedly raised over $34,000 as an Executive Challenge Member over the past four years.

“I’m beyond honored to receive this year’s AHA Heart Award. My commitment to the AHA’s efforts is steadfast, on behalf of my beautiful sister whom we lost three years ago from a heart attack,” said Ferrera. “I participate as a way to honor her memory and to give back to others.”

According to the AHA’s 2015 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Update:

• Nearly 787,000 people in the U.S. died from heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases in 2011. That’s about one of every three deaths in America.
• About 2,150 Americans die each day from these diseases, one every 40 seconds.
• Cardiovascular diseases claim more lives than all forms of cancer combined.
• About 85.6 million Americans are living with some form of cardiovascular disease or the after-effects of stroke.

“Those are some scary numbers,” Ferrera continued. “We hope that by raising funds and awareness, we can start to bring those numbers down by encouraging people to live healthier and more active lives.”
