Solstice Named a South Florida Healthiest Employer

June 04, 2012

The South Florida Business Journal named Solstice Benefits Inc. as one of the “Healthiest Employers of 2012” at its first annual Healthiest Employers Luncheon on May 24th at Fort Lauderdale’s luxurious Pier 66. As a leading small business organization, Solstice has implemented various initiatives to be awarded this prestigious title.

Solstice, a dental, vision and life insurance provider, was founded on the principles of helping improve health and wellness. With wellness as the cornerstone of its organization, Solstice focuses on wellness from the inside out – offering wellness programs to its employees while offering quality access to care and rich benefits to consumers.

The Healthiest Employers of 2012 Luncheon hosted guests of over 50 South Florida companies, as they enjoyed a wellness fair and were treated to a signature low-calorie lunch. “At Solstice, we believe that it is important to be a role model for your employees,” said Solstice’s Human Resources Director, Ellen deClaire, to another luncheon guest. “We show our personal commitment to wellness by trying our best to exercise and eat right.”

Solstice hosts a “Biggest Loser” contest annually, which results in the winner taking home a healthy meal delivery plan from Fit-2-Go. This past year, employees lost over 100 pounds in their efforts to lead healthier lifestyles. Internally, the company also hosts a complementary on-site “Wellness Fair” where employees are able to be screened for total cholesterol, HDL glucose, and blood pressure with instant results. Physical activity is heavily promoted within the organization through a partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA), which has encouraged employees to utilize an AHA approved walking path when coming in and out of the office building. For the second consecutive year, Solstice sponsored and participated in the AHA’s annual “National Walking Day” and “Broward Heart Walk” as one of the top fundraising companies.

“Leading a healthy lifestyle truly makes a difference in the workplace,” said Carlos Ferrera, Chief Operating Officer at Solstice. “Our employees are very energetic and positive individuals. They take advantage of the wellness opportunities Solstice has to offer, and it makes them feel good that the company cares about their health.”
